About Emmet

I have worked in the screen industry for 30 years. I began as a news cameraman in the mid 1990s with organisations including the BBC, Sky News, Reuters, ITN and Associated Press. News taught me to make quick decisions, to work under pressure and, most importantly, to understand how pictures tell a story. Moving into television production in 2000 let me develop those skills across documentary, factual, entertainment, travel and lifestyle programming.

As a Director of Photography I have worked with broadcasters and production companies including RTÉ, Virgin Media, TG4, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, Paramount, CBS and Netflix. I have filmed in 90 countries, in environments that have asked me to adapt technically, creatively and personally, and with directors, producers and crews who taught me how to communicate, how to understand different ways of working and how to contribute to a team.

Good filmmaking is about much more than operating a camera. It is about understanding the story, working effectively with others and finding the right visual approach to engage an audience.

My experience has come through practical learning on productions, and I keep adapting as camera technology, digital workflows, 4K production, colour management and post-production change.

Alongside the camera work I have developed a growing interest in education, mentoring and sharing practical industry knowledge. I hold a QQI Level 6 qualification in Training Delivery and Evaluation, and I am particularly interested in helping to create opportunities for the next generation of filmmakers. I am from Raphoe, Co. Donegal, and I came home in 2026 after three decades away to bring that experience to students here.
